"Underwater Scene" - Artist Statement |
|
This underwater scene was an interesting project to work on. I was able to apply more of the Flash techniques I picked up, although I did learn one big thing about Flash that can hurt when you play it: transparent objects eat up a lot of CPU power. So, if an end-user's computer isn't too poweful, a flash animation like this one utilizing a lot of objects interacting with other transparent objects can really turn playback into a dog. Moral of the story: use transparent objects sparingly, and not as liberally as I did here. One thing that didn't turn out as well as I would have liked was the sunbeams through the water. While I can draw that sort of thing out by hand, it was fairly tricky to get something looking half-way decent with Flash. On top of that, I wanted to animate the sunbeams, but that effect didn't turn out too well, so I left it out. ~ Adam Deutschmann, May 2007 |
